Roof Anchor Requirements and Certification
We’ve all heard the expression, “There’s more than meets the eye.” This holds true for so many things in life ranging from a person’s mild demeanor to a complicated job that seems simple to a layperson. It also holds true for roof anchor points.
The anchors on your building might seem okay and perfectly fine to the naked eye, but how do you know if it really is safe? How do you know if you are compliant with Window Washing Safety Standards?
OSHA requires roof anchors be installed if façade work is performed by suspending from the roof. But that’s just the first step. Once roof anchors are in place, it’s also the law that they must be inspected and certified to make sure they meet all requirements and are in safe working order.
A visual inspection of roof anchors is required every year.
Certification of each anchorage is required every 10 years. After installation of the system, a Professional Engineer needs to witness to the load testing of the system. Then a stamped letter of approval by a licensed PE stating that the system may be used for its intended purpose is entered into a logbook.
Whether it’s for the visual inspection or 10-year certification, hiring a company like Boston Window & Safety will take the liability off your shoulders and complete the entire process from beginning to end.
